WordPress is not lightweight.

  2. Preload only the hero image.
  3. Nothing else.

That is the fastest way.

12. Visual elements that often slow sites down without you realizing it

Elementor, Bricks, WPBakery have built-in effects that:

12.1 Builder animations

  • slow down scrolling
  • cause jumping

12.2 Videos in the hero section

It looks nice, yes.
But it loads slowly.

if your hosting is weak, the site will always be slow.

Every time someone opens your site:

  1. The server has to process the request
  2. Load WordPress
  3. Load the plugins
  4. Run all functions
  5. Generate HTML
  6. Send it to the browser

If the machine is weak, all of this happens slowly.

Shared Hosting

This is the cheapest option.
And the slowest.

There are dozens or hundreds of websites on the same machine.

16. What parameters should you look at when choosing hosting?

You do not need to understand technical terms.
Remember these three:

1) CPU (processor)

The more cores you have, the faster your site works.

Recommendation:
minimum 2 cores
ideal 4 cores for WooCommerce

2) RAM (memory)

WordPress loves RAM.
The more you have, the faster it loads.

Recommendation:
minimum 2GB
ideal 4GB

3) NVMe drives

They are much faster than older SSD and HDD drives.

Caching is the most misunderstood, but the most powerful speed tool.

Simply explained:

Cache is a copy of the finished page.

Instead of WordPress processing every visit from scratch (plugins, database, PHP...), the cached site simply serves the ready result.

A page that is generated in 0.7 sec will load in 0.07 sec.

18. The two types of cache every WordPress site should have

6.1. 1) Server-level cache (the most important one)

This is cache from the server itself.
The best technologies are:

  • LiteSpeed Cache (OpenLiteSpeed & LiteSpeed servers)
  • Nginx FastCGI Cache
  • Cloudflare Cache

They are much faster than plugins.

6.2. 2) Cache plugin (the second layer)

...on servers that are very close to Bulgaria.
That is why it often works faster than Cloudflare for our clients.

Without a CDN:

Your site in Sofia loads for a client in Varna -> 1.2 seconds
For a client in Germany -> 2.2 seconds
For a client in the USA -> 4+ seconds

With a CDN:

The site loads from the nearest server -> often under 0.5 seconds

Even if you do not have a global audience, a CDN speeds up your site in Bulgaria and Europe.

22. The power comes from the combination: Hosting + Cache + CDN

The three work best together:

  • Hosting processes WordPress quickly
  • Cache serves ready-made pages without creating them from scratch
  • CDN serves the site from the nearest server

This is the formula for a site that:

  • opens in under 1 second
  • works stably
  • is not affected by traffic
  • has visible results in Google

23. How to tell whether your site is suffering from a hosting / cache / CDN issue

Here is a quick check we do at 88LAB:

If the site is slow on every page

The cause is hosting + no cache.
