The media archive finds a new home

Banker combines daily news publishing with a large archive. 88Lab was tasked with redesigning the website and migrating over 600,000 articles from a custom platform to WordPress, without access to the old system or its database.

The work covered content migration, a new visual direction and a clearer structure for the news sections. WordPress brought publishing and content management together, while the updated navigation connected current news and the archive within one platform.

Migration with limited access

The lack of access to the old platform and database was the key constraint. The reported volume of over 600,000 articles comes from 88Lab’s project records. It describes the scale of migrated content, not traffic or sales.

Navigation for daily news publishing

We simplified navigation and added a choice of visible categories. Topic sections, individual articles and video content serve different purposes, so the structure needs to help readers move between them.

Performance and returning readers

The scope included performance optimisation, marketing tools and email marketing. The live website shows the news sections, video category and newsletter subscription form.

Planning a similar migration

For a new migration project, we first define the sources and available access, content types, images and URL mapping. The brief sets out a trial migration, acceptance criteria and a launch plan. The exact scope depends on the old platform.
